31 Days To A Clutter Free Life Day 10: Kitchen Counters

Welcome to Day 10 of the 31 Days To A Clutter Free Life Challenge! If you want to find out what the challenge is all about or would like to read the previous posts, simply go here.

Today we are focusing on the kitchen counters. I try to keep as much as I possibly can off my kitchen counters. We don’t have a lot of kitchen counter space to begin with and I can’t afford to lose what little I do have. This is the bulk of what I do:

  • I only keep things on the counter that I use daily.
  • If there is a space where it can be put away, it can’t stay on the counter.
  • No food is left out on the counter.
  • Mail is dealt with immediately or gets put away. (click here to find out how I solved this issue).

Here are my “before” photos. Not terrible, but I still have some room for improvement. My biggest issue is putting away things that I use at night. As you’ll see below I’m breaking several of my own rules.

The coffee pot and thermos will get put away along with the booklet on the left. I just received this Keurig and was setting it up yesterday. By the way I LOVE it so far!

Not much here except a sippy cup and the toaster which I rarely leave out.

This is the area where I used to pile up mail. Now it’s become a catch all spot for miscellaneous stuff we use or take out during the day. I need to remind myself to clear it off each night before I let it get out of hand!

Once again, I’ll update this post with “after” photos. This one is fairly easy, but I hope that you don’t think from my posts so far that my house is 100% clutter free. The areas that have been tackled so far, were those that I frequently keep up with so it has been easier for me. Now as go further into the challenge, I’ll have to tackle some real clutter “beasts”. So my work will definitely be cut out for me! I hope you are still hanging in there. Just think of the clutter free home you’ll end up with just before the holiday season!

**Update!**
Here is today’s after photos. I didn’t have to do anything major here other than put things back where they belong. So much better now!

I really need to take the time and do this in my kitchen. I seem to lose more space each week. Right now, I have my cereal bins on the counter, but I really should make room to keep them in the pantry.
