7 Ways YouTube Can Save You Hundreds Of Dollars

7 Ways YouTube Can Save You Hundreds Of Dollars. From educational resources to tutorials, YouTube is more than a place for viral videos. Find out how you can save money by using this free online resource.

Today I want to chat a little about one of my favorite places on the web: YouTube. I’m a visual learner and if I need to figure something out, I like to see how it’s done. YouTube has helped me saved a lot of money thanks to all the great videos uploaded by their community. I know that many people think of YouTube as a place for funny (or weird) viral videos. Although you can find plenty of those there, it also has more to offer than we give it credit for. Here are some my favorite video categories that have helped our family save hundreds of dollars.

7 Ways YouTube Can Save You Hundreds Of Dollars

1. Tutorials

If you need to figure out a simple fix or want to learn a new skill, check out YouTube first. I had zero background in web design, but thanks to YouTube I’ve built a few websites on my own including this one. My husband has also used video tutorials to fix small mechanical problems with our cars which may have cost us hundreds elsewhere.

2. Entertainment

Want to save money on entertainment? Go to YouTube. There are many free TV shows, movies and music videos to provide a large variety for your family. I don’t suggest allowing your children to use it on their own since some of the suggested videos can be sketchy. My baby girl is currently into Yo Gabba Gabba (more like obsessed!), luckily YouTube has a huge selection of episodes I can tap into to keep her entertained.

3. Educational Resources

We are a homeschooling family and YouTube has been a great resource for my kids, specifically for my son who’s a visual learner like me. From foreign language videos to solving complex math problems, YouTube has it all. Even if you don’t homeschool, YouTube can still be a great resource for your school aged child. One great channel to follow is YouTube EDU which features tons of great videos from social sciences to medicine.

4. Product Reviews

Ever wonder what a product looks like or does before you buy it? I personally like to do as much research before spending my hard earned money. YouTube is a great way to check out the product from the point of view of a buyer. This will help you make a decision on whether or not you should purchase the item. I’ve personally have changed my mind about purchases thanks to the reviews I’ve see on YouTube. Less money wasted.

5. DIY Projects

Need to make a craft to keep your child entertained? Or simply want to create something fun for your home? YouTube has a wide range of DIY projects to choose from. I also find that while I’m working on a DIY project, I can go on YouTube to learn new tricks and tips from others. Again, if you do it yourself you won’t have to worry about paying someone else to do it for you. Check out the HGTV Handmade channel for tons of DIY videos.

6. Couponing Tips and Store Deals

YouTube is full of How To videos. You can find videos on how to use coupons properly to store hauls. During Black Friday many vloggers shared available deals along with how to match coupons to maximize savings. I personally enjoy watching these videos because like I’ve mentioned before, I’m a visual learner. I rather see how it’s done instead of reading instructions on how to match up deals. Store hauls are also fun and motivating because you see the potential of what you could be stocking up on. Souther Savers has a great channel that focuses on couponing tips and store deals.

7. Fitness Videos

This is one is a bit trickier, but I have found some quality fitness videos on YouTube. If you can’t afford a gym membership or simply need a change from your typical workout videos check out YouTube. I also like watching motivational videos that show a person’s journey through fitness. It’s super motivating for me and will get me going when I’m stuck in a workout rut. A great YouTube channel is POPSUGAR Fitness.

Do you use YouTube for any of the reasons I mentioned? What are some of your favorite channels? Please feel free to share in the comments! Also check out my YouTube channel, my plan is to create more videos this year with homemaking tips and tricks. 🙂

I’ve learnt so many useful things on youtube. I never before thought that it was actually saving me money! It’s amazing that all of that knowledge is free for everyone on the internet. Great tips, Jesenia!

Ohhh yes, we watch a lot of YouTube! Entertainment, for sure, and for learning about different products (for me, planners and whatnots, for the Mister, motorcycles and video games). And, the best part is, since we both love what we are watching, its learning about products and entertainment all in one!
