Get Your Home Ready For The Holidays-Day 3 {15 Day Challenge}

Get Your Home Ready For The Holidays Day 3 {15 Day Challenge}-Get your home ready for the holiday season with this 15 day challenge! #HolidayReadyChallenge
Day 3 is here and I noticed that I’m starting to really get into a rhythm. Today’s task is very simple to do, but depending on your home’s needs it may require a chunk of time. Today we are focusing on the walls. I find that if a home’s walls are dirty or in bad need of fresh paint it can affect the look of the entire room in a negative way. Personally this is not one of my favorite tasks. In fact I loathe spot cleaning or painting walls, but I also know that it’s a task I can’t neglect.

I focused on wiping down wall spots that are harder to reach and my husband graciously agreed to touch up the walls with paint. Sounds simple enough, but trust me this can be very time consuming. In fact, I wish I had recruited my kids to join in and help. I’m actually not 100% done, so I’ll definitely be asking them to handle their bedrooms and shared bathroom.

What will you need for today’s challenge?

A good cleaning solution that won’t damage your paint. Depending on the type of paint your walls have, make sure that you don’t use a harsh cleaner that will rub the paint off. I personally like using a few squirts of dishwashing soap in a bucket of warm water. This along with a washcloth is typically all I need to get the job done. For the hard to clean spots, I use a magic eraser as my back up. And when that doesn’t work, I paint it.

Sounds easy right? Ha! I wish. We have a small home and we still didn’t get it all done. Perhaps because I’m a bit Type-A and like to get every little spot, but honestly this can be tedious if you plan to do it right. I suggest you enlist some help via your spouse and kids. Also make sure that it’s not too cold outside so you can open up the windows. This will help the walls dry quicker, especially if you need to paint some spots. This is also a good time to take down wall decor and clean those areas as well.

A quick heads up about tomorrow’s task. My plan is to tackle my food storage areas (pantry/cabinets). I also think this will be a great time to see what we have and build our menu plan around it. I honestly think I have enough canned green beans to last me until next holiday season.

Where you productive this weekend? My son’s football season won’t end until next month so it’s been hard getting big projects done around here. This weekend felt like some real progress was made even if it only entailed cleaning and painting. Did you get yesterday’s challenge complete? I’d love to hear from you!

  1. I learned the hard way that 409 is not paint friendly in our old apartment xD But, now I know, and while it didn’t take much off, and they would have needed to repaint after we moved out anyway, it was a still a moment of “oh no!” – I also managed to, over time, scrub off some of the paint-looking bits on the stove where the dials are!

      Yikes! At least it was clean. 😉 I’ve done this myself in the past and find that warm soapy water works best for me. No issues so far. (knock on wood)
