Get Your Home Ready For The Holidays-Day 9 {15 Day Challenge}

Get Your Home Ready For The Holidays-Day 9 {15 Day Challenge}-Get your home ready for the holiday season with this 15 day challenge! For today's challenge we are working on the master bathroom.
Welcome to Day 9 of the Get Your Home Ready For The Holidays Challenge! For today’s challenge I decided to focus my efforts in the bathroom. Specifically, the master bathroom. Now don’t let the “master” part fool you. My bathroom is quite small and lacking storage space. I have to constantly purge toiletries in order to keep the space organized. But this also forces me to constantly de-clutter and keep the bathroom space simple.

If you need some direction in this area, here are a few tips to help you get started:

De-clutter

Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need multiples of each of your toiletries. Unless you find that a product is on sale, keep your toiletries to a minimum. Chances are you don’t use all of your toiletries, and you probably only stick to a handful of products anyways. I always start by pitching anything that is expired, or opened, but never gets used.

Place it in containers

The next thing I do, is place whatever I do keep in containers. I like to use plastic bins because they are easier to clean up if something spills. I don’t own anything fancy and most of my containers have been purchased at dollar stores. I also have two large plastic containers that are clear, where I place more frequently used items since it makes it easier to see what I have.

Maximize your space

Having a small bathroom has forced me to get creative. I have one small closet which is where I place all toiletries. I try to use every bit of space in there, including the floor which is where I place larger items. You can also use the space above the toilet by placing a bathroom wall cabinet or shelves.

Here’s a photo of my bathroom closet after I went on a purging spree. It still needs organized a little more and there are a few things I still need to move, but I wanted to at least give you a general idea of what it looks like.

Another task I completed was deep cleaning the space and scrubbing all surfaces. I also washed the bathroom rug, although that’s something I do routinely anyways.

What are you working on this week? Now that some of the main rooms of my home are complete, I’m going to start working on specific projects. One of them will be cleaning windows and blinds, but we’re getting some crazy weather this week so I’ll be playing it by ear. As always feel free to comment and share your own progress or tips!
