I’m proud to partner with CVS/pharmacy for the #StayHealthyWithCVS campaign. I am being sponsored by CVS/pharmacy for my posts and activities, but all opinions expressed are my own, and all product claims or program details shared should be verified at CVS.com or with the appropriate manufacturers.
Along with colder weather, the holiday season also brings more visitors and overnight guests. It’s easy to get stressed out when preparing your home for family and friends. But it doesn’t have to be, and if you focus on a few key areas, you won’t have to spend hours prepping. So today I’m sharing some of my favorite tips to help you prepare your home for holiday guests.
How To Prepare Your Home For Holiday Guests
If you’re tight on time, focus on the areas that your guests will be in. Typically that would include the kitchen, living room, bathroom and guest bedroom spaces. I also like to make my outdoor space welcoming with a new mat and wreath. Don’t do it alone, get your family involved and go on a quick cleaning spree. You can also add small touches of holiday decor to add warmth to your home.
Once you’re done, simmer a pot of homemade potpourri to fill your home with a warm welcoming scent. It’s the little things that go a long way, and your guests will appreciate it.
Stock up on essentials
Don’t forget to stock up on essentials items for your guests. Some essential items to have on hand are toilet paper, paper towels, hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion and toothpaste. Yes, your guests might bring some of their own toiletries, but it’s best to be prepared in case they forget something.
Give your overnight guests the hotel treatment and ensure that their bed linens are freshly washed. Have extra blankets and pillows available in the guest bedroom in case your guests need them. Also ensure to keep several clean towels and washcloths handy, so your guests don’t run out during their stay.
Before your guests arrive, find out what their favorite foods are, or if they have any special dietary needs so you can plan your meals ahead. However, don’t add unnecessary stress by cooking huge elaborate meals. You can always keep some dishes semi-homemade or even prepare them ahead. I find that when I cook a large amount of food for gatherings, I wind up with a ton of leftovers. So keep it simple, so you don’t waste time or money.
Create a welcome basket
Create a welcome basket for your overnight guests that includes snacks as well as toiletries. Some of my favorite items to include are facial tissues and lip care products. Hand sanitizing spray pens are also great to help keep germs at bay during the flu and cold season. You can also add small water bottles and magazines. This simple step can go a long way and will be make your guests feel special. You can find all of the items seen here at your local CVS.
