Spring break is the perfect time to take some time off and get away from the daily routine. Before you book your next trip, checkout these tips to help you keep your family’s next adventure stress-free.

Spring Break Family Travel Tips

Book early

Don’t wait until the very last minute to make travel arrangements. When you book your hotel and airfare early on, you can take your time to compare prices and shop around. I also like to book trips during the off-season because popular attractions are a lot less crowded.

Keep it close

If you don’t have the time nor the resources to visit an out-of-state destination, travel to a nearby city instead. We love traveling to cities that are within driving distance because it gives us more flexibility with our time. It also allows us to explore nearby destinations we might not have considered. We recently celebrated our son’s birthday in Philadelphia. It was an easy short drive and the kids had a blast exploring the city. family-trip-philly

Create a plan

Don’t wait until you arrive at the hotel to figure out what you’ll be doing. Although we prefer to keep our itinerary flexible, we also like to get the most out of our trips. Even if you only select a couple of must-see attractions, you’ll at least be a step ahead. Don’t forget to add local eateries to your list. We love finding cool spots that are popular with the locals and offer delicious grub.

Pack smart

Only pack the clothing and items you’ll need for your trip. I like to take a look at the weather forecast so I can pack accordingly. Also consider taking a travel bag filled with snacks and bottled water. This saves us from making unnecessary stops plus it keeps the kids content in-between meals.

Skip the credit card

My husband and I are both self-employed which means our monthly income constantly fluctuates. There are months that I find myself waiting for several invoices to be paid out and I have to dip into our savings to cover essentials. It’s the nature of the business and I’m used to it, but when I book a trip I also have to keep this in mind. Instead of charging our hotel room to a credit card, I recently discovered Affirm which offers a better way to pay for large purchases over time. expedia-affirm Affirm makes it possible to buy today and pay over time in easy monthly payments. And unlike some credit cards, you know upfront exactly how much something will cost you with no hidden fees. Every month, and in total. affirm-monthly-payments I recently booked our hotel through Expedia and used Affirm to complete my purchase. I simply answered a few questions, Affirm made a (real-time) credit decision, and within minutes I had three payment options to choose from. I like that Affirm allows me to enjoy my vacation without stressing about the total cost or tying up our savings. I can make informed decisions when making a large purchase because it’s transparent and simple.

Have plans on taking a trip with your family this spring? Where will you be visiting? As always, I’d love to hear from you!
