Have you ever asked yourself, where did time go? Lately, I’ve been more aware of how fleeting time is. Perhaps is the fact that my oldest “baby” is graduating from high school next month. Or maybe it’s the fact that my youngest is already learning her colors, and pointing them out excitedly for all to hear. As much as I would love to pause time, I know that this is life, and that I simply need to savor every moment I have with my children.
Dinner time is one of those moments that I treasure, and always look forward to. Unless my son has an evening sports activity, we never miss our dinner time together. Sunday dinners are my personal favorite. Once in a while we’ll go out to eat after church, but most Sundays we come home and have a meal cooked by my husband.
For our family, dinner goes beyond the food we’re going to eat. It’s about meaningful conversation, laughter, and creating memories as a family. I know some families don’t feel that it’s possible to sit down together for dinner. Obviously it will depend on your family dynamics and schedule. However, if you can’t do dinner, try breakfast. The point is to make sure that you sit down together, with zero electronics or distractions, and enjoy each other’s company. One day, you’ll cherish the precious moments you shared with your loved ones at the dinner table.
Not sure how to get your kids excited? Make it a big ordeal for them. Include them when setting the table, or while prepping the food. As a mom, I feel lucky that my children enjoy drinking water and I don’t need me to nag them about it. However, my toddler did a switcheroo on me when she was a little over a year old.
