Why I Love My 11 Year Old Car

I remember the day I obtained my driver’s license, I was ecstatic knowing that I no longer had to rely on public transportation to get around. Not that there’s anything wrong with it, but I don’t live in a big city so public transportation is an adventure in itself. I knew that having the ability to drive myself would give me the freedom to get more done and even go on new adventures. Fast forward to today, and I couldn’t imagine life without a vehicle. My car is 11 years old and has seen better days, but all that matters is that it’s mine. And truthfully daily life would probably look a bit different if I had no wheels to get around with.

My mom obtained her license in Puerto Rico later in her adulthood. It made a huge difference for us since we were finally able to visit nearby family more regularly including my sick grandmother. My mom was able to drop by her house each day and help her with daily household chores. Although a car is just a material thing which we shouldn’t really on to bring us happiness, it definitely opens up opportunities that can be used to enhance our lives. So with that said, today I’m sharing all the reasons why I love my 11 year old car.

It enables me to “escape” from the house.

There are days when mom needs a break from all the chaos and noise. I love that I can hop in my car and go to a nearby coffee shop to get a moment to myself. This is also when I get work done if I’m in the middle of a project. However, there are days when the kids need a break too. I love going to a nearby park and letting them explore. This is also the perfect time to capture those moments with my camera.

It enables me to haul my curbside finds.

I have a larger SUV which means I can haul big stuff. I’m pretty frugal when it comes to home decor and furniture, so when I see something that I can repurpose, I load it up. I’m currently working on this beauty which will be going into our bedroom.

It enables me to get to our children’s sporting events.

My kids have always been involved in a sport or two. This also means one of us has to take on the role of being the kid chauffeur. Although driving the kids to practice is not my definition of fun, I love that on game days I get to see the results of their hard work. Go #67! 😉

It enables us to travel.

This was one of the reasons we purchased my vehicle. We love to take road trips and explore nearby cities. We never travel without my step-son and that brings our household total to six. My SUV is large enough for all of us to travel together with our belongings. Bonus: Being able to witness a beautiful sunset with loved ones after a long drive.

As you can see my car is important to me and my family. So in order to keep it in top mechanical shape I make sure to get regular oil changes and tune-ups. I’ll be honest this is not my favorite thing to do, but I also know that it’s necessary.

One thing I like about getting an oil change at my local Walmart’s Auto Care Center, is that I can shop instead of sitting in a waiting room. The price for the oil change is one of the best in our area and the quality of oil used, Quaker State, gives me a peace of mind. The service is fast and you don’t even need an appointment to stop in.
