Master Bedroom Makeover

We have a small master bedroom that limits our ability to get creative with our space. However, we found that even small spaces can be brought to life with a fresh new coat of paint. When we decided to paint our master bedroom, I knew that I wanted a color that was calming with a modern touch.

Here’s what our master bedroom looked like before:

We tested out several paint colors before making our final decision. We finally settled on Let It Rain (SW 9152) which complimented our white furniture and neutral decor. The beauty of paint is that you once you’re ready for change, you can simply repaint and change the entire look of your space.

Materials:

• 2 gallons of Let It Rain (SW 9152) Emerald® Interior Acrylic Latex Paint in a Satin sheen
• 1 gallon of High Reflective White (SW7757) Eminence® High Performance Ceiling Paint in a Flat sheen
• 1 quart of High Reflective White (SW7757) ProClassic® Interior Acrylic Latex Enamel in a Semi-Gloss sheen
• 1 36mm roll of painters tape
• 1 Purdy Marathon Roller Cover 3/8″ nap
• 1 Purdy Nylon Stiff Brush 1.5″
• 1 Plastic Roller Tray 9″
• 1 Purdy Power Lock Pole (2-4″ extension)

Steps:

1. We had a few tiny holes we had to take care of before painting the walls. First we patched up small holes with drywall compound, allowed it to dry, and sanded until smooth. When painting a bedroom, don’t forget to pull furniture away from the walls and cover with plastic.

2. We also dusted the baseboards, ceiling corners, and wiped down the walls with a damp rag to remove any dust or debris. We started with by painting one coat on the ceiling of Eminence® High Performance Ceiling Paint in the High Reflective White color (SW7757, flat).

3. Next, we painted the walls with one coat of Emerald® Interior Acrylic Latex Paint in the Let It Rain color (SW 9152, satin), and allowed it to dry.

Tip: For best coverage always paint in a W formation, going back and forth until the area is fully covered. This will also help you avoid brush marks.

Once the paint was dry, we painted the walls with a second coat of paint as well as the wall edges. Lastly, we painted the trim, doors and baseboards.

The color makes the space feels cozy and fresh. It also feels like it made our small bedroom open up by giving it more depth. It now looks like a completely different space!
