I love finding a great deal. In fact, I always try to do some research before heading out to a store to find out if there’s a sale happening or if there’s a coupon I can print. But even with my frugal tendencies, I don’t value a penny as much as I should. If I drop one while I’m out, I let it go if it’s too much trouble. But back when I was a kid, I probably would have gone on a full search to find it. Why? Because a penny used to go much further. Remember penny candy? Yup, good times.
So you might be in the same boat as me, thinking that a penny is not worth much. But what if I told you that it is. I recently received a fun gumball machine from JCPenney. I think I might have been a bit more excited than my kids. 😉
The best part of this gumball machine is that you only need a penny to retrieve a gumball. I can’t even get anything for less than .50 cents from most candy machines.
So why a penny gumball machine? JCPenney is currently launching promotional offers called “Penney Days”. Penney Days will include BOGOs or “buy one, get one” specials available in store and on jcp.com. The first week-long Penney Day BOGO event will run from Feb. 28 to March 5, allowing customers to purchase any item from the Company’s The Original Arizona Jean Co.® and purchase another Arizona item for just one penny (excluding footwear). How awesome is that?! I can’t remember the last time a penny could pay for anything, let alone clothes.
So what’s a penny worth to you? JCPenney conducted a penny focused survey that had interesting results. It found that the penny may be tiny, but mighty! 95 million Americans (2 in 5) say they usually wouldn’t even pick up a penny if they saw it on the sidewalk. Sound familiar? But that doesn’t mean Americans think the penny is worthless. In fact, quite the opposite. Nearly nine in ten Americans still keep pennies around either in their home, a piggy bank or their purse (89%) and say that pennies can come in handy (88%). Almost three-quarters of Americans (73%) say the penny is an important part of our currency and should not be eliminated.
Throughout the year, additional Penney Day promotions will include one-day-only specials that feature a unique in-store item for just a penny with no additional purchase required. So keep an eye out for more information! And don’t forget to save those pennies!
Do you save your pennies? Do you feel it’s worth it to you? I’d love to hear from you!
