Tinker Bell Themed Cupcakes

Tinker Bell Themed Cupcakes. A super simple way you can decorate cupcakes for a future Tinker Bell birthday party. Even if you don't have culinary skills!

I remember while growing up, each weekend my dad would purchase or rent a movie, order take-out, and we would gather around the TV as a family. Now, I find myself doing the same thing with my children and continuing the tradition. It’s our way to wind down, enjoy a few snacks and spend time together. One thing I enjoy doing for movie night is include a food or special treat that reflects the theme of the movie. So for the upcoming release of the movie Tinker Bell and the Legend of the NeverBeast movie I thought it would be fun to create cupcakes to match Tinker Bell’s outfit colors.

The new Tinker Bell movie looks adorable and I love that it focuses on friendship, loyalty and the theme “don’t judge a book by its cover”. I remember as a child in Puerto Rico, my grandmother’s house would be full of children from the neighborhood that stopped by to play. Some would even stick around to join our family for dinner. My grandmother, or abuela as we say in Spanish, was the perfect example of what friendship should look like. She always offered a helping hand and her unconditional love to others. I can’t wait to instill these same positive values into my children and future generations.

I made these cupcakes by following my favorite vanilla cupcake and icing recipe which you can find here. You may also use your own favorite cupcake recipe or box cake mix to create these. Don’t make things super complicated for yourself. You want to be able to have time to spend with your family. Always remember, “family over laundry”!

Decorating your cupcakes:

Supplies- white cupcakes liners (not for baking, these will be extra) 1 pack of lime green tissue paper 1 lime green bath pouf clear tape bright green food coloring silver sugar crystals small purple candies of your choice Once you bake your cupcakes and let them cool, you’ll need to cut two pieces of lime green tissue paper per cupcake. I bought mine at a local dollar store. I cut one piece approximately 10×9 and the second piece was 6×6. The first piece of tissue paper will go on the outside of your cupcake liner. Just place the cupcake liner on the 10×9 tissue and wrap the tissue towards the inside of the liner. Hold it in place with your fingers.

Add the second piece of tissue paper to the inside of the cupcake liner. Continue to hold otherwise the tissue will come apart. Take a cupcake and place inside on top of the tissue paper. Fluff it up and tuck in any sides that may have popped out.

Next, take 2 cups of icing and add bright green food coloring. I added approximately 6-8 drops to reach this shade of green. Place the icing in the refrigerator until it’s cool. This will make it easier to pipe onto the cupcakes.

Lime-Green-Icing
Using your favorite icing tip, pipe the icing onto the cupcakes. I’m not an expert, but I find that simply going around the cupcake in a circular motion gives me the effect that I want. I added silver sugar crystals for extra sparkle. You can find these in your local grocery store in the baking ingredients aisle.

To make the topper, I used a bath pouf that I cut open. Yes, you read that correctly. I purchased one lime green bath pouf at the dollar store and cut it into small pieces (3×3) to make the toppers. I simply gathered it and wrapped the bottom with clear tape. I trimmed the bottom, but left enough so that I could poke the topper into the cupcake.

I also added some purple mini candies I had on hand to give it some additional color. Super easy and they look adorable!

Oh my goodness- these are amazing! I cannot believe how simple they are once you broke down the steps. I’m also so touched by your story about your grandmother – you’re blessed to have had an example of what great friendship looks like 🙂
