Get Your Home Ready For The Holidays-Day 2 {15 Day Challenge}

Get Your Home Ready For The Holidays Day 2 {15 Day Challenge}-Get your home ready for the holiday season with this 15 day challenge! #HolidayReadyChallenge
If you’re a regular reader, you already know that I don’t blog everyday. I love blogging, but family will always take first place. With that said, don’t be surprised with the night time posts. This challenge is happening in real time or at least close enough to it. So I’m not able to upload photos or get a post up first thing in the morning when I’m still working on the day’s challenge. In other words, I ask that you roll with it and show me a little grace. 🙂

So for today’s challenge, I want you to focus on a room that needs some TLC. However, make sure you pick a room that you enjoy being in. This space might be where your family spends a lot of time together, or perhaps is your own personal space where you get away from it all. Once you’ve figured out what room you want to focus on, take out a chunk of time to deep clean and work on the things that have been neglected.

My favorite room in our home is our living room. It’s not big, but I love that we can all gather together to watch a movie or play board games. There are a few things in this space that need attention, but I’ve been putting off for a bit. None of these are complicated, but for whatever reason I’ve pushed them to the bottom of my list.

I started by cleaning up the space which included baseboards, moving furniture and cleaning every little nook. The space isn’t big, so this didn’t take me very long. I was a bit surprised to find snack wrappers, Lego pieces and even pieces of crackers behind my sofa. I’m pretty good about getting under and behind my sofa with the vacuum, but my kids always manage to get a small arsenal of things back there.

I made a note of the things I have been putting off which included getting a new picture frame. Notice the one on the left? My toddler recently broke off the back piece and it’s been leaning like that for the last week. It was already starting to break, but now it definitely needs replaced.

I also need a new curtain rod. Again, this one is courtesy of the toddler. She has this bad habit of hiding behind the curtain and taking off running while pulling the curtain with her. This will be the 4th or 5th time I replace this curtain rod. I also think it’s time to invest on a sturdier metal rod.

I also got rid of some toys that were sitting in one of the living room corners. Well technically I didn’t get rid of them. I just stashed the toys in a closet for the time being until I figure out were to house them. I find that my toddler doesn’t play much with her toys most days. She prefers books, watching YouTube videos or terrorizing her brother.

I also ordered a wall mount for the living room TV. I recently changed the TV cabinet, but learned that the shelves are a tad too small for our satellite box (or anything else for that matter). So we will be placing the TV on the wall, so we can place the satellite box on top of the cabinet.

So that’s my progress for Day 2. It’s funny how a small project like this can trickle over in other areas. I found myself washing area rugs, purging papers and organizing my closet. The motivation begins to snowball. Again, choose an area that you enjoy. Why? Because you’ll go into it with a sense of ownership and give it your all. I’ll be the first to admit that if I don’t love a space, I’m less motivated to work on it.

So what are you up to in your home? Did you get yesterday’s challenge complete? I’d love to hear from you!
