The other day I was going through some of my old blog posts and I noticed how much my writing has evolved. It was one of those proud moments that reminded me of how far I’ve come in my blogging journey. However, this wasn’t always the case. In fact, there were several times that I almost quit and gave up blogging. Why? Because blogging is not easy. And blogging to generate income is even harder. If you’re thinking about blogging, I don’t want to discourage you. But I do want you to truly analyze if blogging is something you want to pour your heart and efforts into.
6 Reasons Why Blogging Might Not Be Right For You
1. You don’t like working hard.
When you first launch a blog, you will work many hours and make absolutely nothing. I had the misconception that blogging was simply writing about my knowledge and thoughts. I was very wrong. Bloggers spend a great deal of time writing, editing their writing, taking photos, promoting their posts, responding to emails and other marketing efforts just to have their content seen.
2. You don’t like writing.
This is a no brainer, but I’m shocked at the amount of bloggers that say they hate writing. Blogging requires you to write. Crazy concept, right? 🙂 In fact, there will be times when you will need to write even when you don’t feel like it. Ever have writer’s block? Yeah, we have plenty of those too. So if you don’t like to write, perhaps consider trying something different.
3. You don’t want freedom.
The great thing about blogging is that you determine what content your readers see. It’s your platform, so you choose what brands to work with and what you want to share with your audience. The frequency of your posts and what topics you write about, are all determined by you. So if you don’t like having the freedom to make your own choices, blogging is definitely not for you.
4. You don’t want unlimited earning potential.
Blogging can be a gateway to various income streams. From ad networks to sponsored posts, the earning potential is truly unlimited. I currently have multiple streams that help make up my blogging income. Not all are directly tied to blogging, but all of my streams were created because of this blog.
Here are some of my previous posts where I share in more detail how I earn, or have previously earned, an income online:

5. You don’t want to make a difference.
When I get an email saying that I encouraged someone to take a leap and pursue their dream, it brings me joy. I enjoy writing, and although I blog to generate an income, I love what I do. And if money was not a factor, I would still be writing. The connections I’ve made and the creative outlet that writing affords me, are priceless. Blogging is one of the easiest ways to reach thousands and even millions of people around the world with your unique message.
6. You don’t want to meet awesome people.
Blogging has allowed me to meet some pretty amazing people. Some that I consider friends in real life. One of the reasons I started writing was to connect with other moms like myself. I was too busy trying to juggle our home that I neglected my social life. It’s not always easy setting up a girls’ day out, but being able to chat online with like-minded women, refuels me in those in-betweens of real life.
My blogging journey
When I started this journey a little over a year ago, I never imagined where my blogging would take me. It has given me the freedom to be home with my kids and continue homeschooling them. I have also been able to contribute financially to our household which has alleviated some of the stress off of my husband. And most importantly, I’ve been able to use this platform to encourage other weary moms, form life-long friendships, and contribute financially to causes we are passionate about.
Have you considered blogging to generate income? One of my favorite bloggers, Crystal Paine, has a new book called Money-Making Mom. I was lucky to get an advanced copy of the book and I wish it had been available when I first started my blogging journey. If you’ve ever considered becoming a money making mom, this book is for you. Perhaps, you don’t want to create a blog. Instead, you might dream of owning a successful Etsy shop or offering professional services to other entrepreneurs. Crystal shares her personal experience including the hard lessons she learned along the way. She also shares actionable tips to help you in your own entrepreneurial journey.

I would love to start a blog helping others through life’s tough spots an illness, a big move, life stuff.. etc balanced where it is not all heavy. 🙂 The techy stuff is where I struggle and honing. On one you are told just to start and on the other hand you are told picking a name is so important. I would love to read Crystal’s book in hopes of finding help in these areas! Blessings:)
One day I think I’d like to open a small day care center or an art studio or something similar for small children.
Thanks for the blog post. I’ve had on my heart the desire to start a blog but feel there is still so much that I don’t know. Maybe reading Crystal’s book will help shed some light.
I am thinking about blogging. I love to share information and experiences with others,
I would like to pursue writing a blog at some point. thanks for the giveaway!
I would like to contribute to our income as well as give encouragement to women who might have health concerns while raising a family.
Last year I became a mom again at the age of 51 when my then 2 year old grandson was placed with my husband and me through CPS. I want to build a successful blog to allow me to be home with my sweet boy. We also want to
travel and create an income that is not dependent on our location. Receiving a copy of Crystal’s book would be a huge blessing.
Thanks for a chance to win Crystal’s book. I am interested is furthering my essential oils business. God allowed our family to find, use, and be blessed by the oils He created. I cannot help but share what they have done for us!
Wow! I’m so happy I found your blog! In my mind I feel like I can embark on this blogging journey myself, but I keep inadvertently proving to myself that blogging is really better when you network and create a community with other creators. Crystal’s book seems like it would definitely help in this process. I’ve just started my blog but get so caught up in all the work it takes to create good content. My goal is to help other women live and provide for their families without feeling like they are just surviving.
I has left a comment but it is gone. I found your site thru moneysavingmom. I’m a stay-at-home mom to 3 ages 2 1/2 and under. I want to do blogging to help other mommies and encourage. I also want to help my hubby out since he’s now going to be taking a 2nd job. I would love to see my blog grow and become something great. I would love the book to help me.
I want to tutor children.
I would love to make money writing on the internet (possibly blogging) or doing life-coaching via email.
I started blogging a few months ago, and really enjoy it. It is something I have wanted to do for a long time. I feel so passionately about encouraging moms and sharing some strategies I have learned as I parent my kids. Up until recently the idea of blogging and needing to market myself was too scary and overwhelming, but I finally decided to jump in. I will definitely be putting Crystal’s book on my wishlist. Thanks for you encouragement!
What a fun post! I started blogging six months ago, and I completely agree with you–it is hard work! Learning the technical side of blogging was especially tough for me. Quite the learning curve. It is definitely worth it, though!
Even though I’m just beginning my journey into blogging, I have already discovered that it does take a great deal of work. But, oh so rewarding, to hear when I’ve had encouragement for someone.
I’m a stay-at-home mom to 3 jewels aves 2 1/2 and down. I just made my website to start blogging in which I would like to help make money to help my family. My husband is about to take on a 2nd job so I want to help. I also would love to be an encouragement to other moms out there that go thru every day life being at home. I love Crystal Paine and would love her book. I was going to preorder but money is tight.
I couldn’t agreed more! Love this blog post. Blogging takes a lot of work but is so rewarding if you put your mind and work into it.
I think it’d be nice to generate an income from my blog. I’ve got content, but haven’t quite figured out the marketing aspect, yet. I think I’ll check out Crystal’s book. Thanks for the post!
I am looking to pursue blogging. I started staying home with my boys last year and I’ve been searching for something to do not only to make money, but to “use” my brain as well. This post confirms that blogging in fact would be a good path for me to try.
I would like to start blogging. I feel like I have so many ideas and interests I want to share. I am constantly writing things down thoughts, comments about scripture, books, sermons, bible study. I want to share all of these to help and encourage other women.
I found your site from Money Saving Mom on Facebook. I have had such a hard time deciding and pursuing a path because I have SO many ideas. I tried blogging, but I’m not really confident in my writing skills (that’s a whole other issue). I am, currently, taking courses on bookkeeping to be a bookkeeper. I’m hoping my husband can join me in doing this business as we work really well together and keep each other motivated. I hope to find clients soon.
I really want to read Crystal’s book. She is very encouraging in periscopes and seems “real.”
So excited to have found your site. I am pursuing a speaking and writing ministry. I would love a copy of Crystal’s book. Now, I am going to go read some of your other posts:)
This was a great read! My problem is I want to do everything! Blogging, my own shop of some sort, writing books, etc. I just can’t make up my mind. I know if I start a blog eventually they all will be able to come. My fiancé works on the road and it just kills our family. Our boys miss dad so much when he’s gone and so do I! This has really made me want to do something that will bring our family back together, along with helping other people do the same. So eventually I would like to start a blog on personal finance, coupons, how to make money online, etc. I’ve been studying and planning and I have been waiting for this book to come out! I read Crystal’s blog almost daily, she is such an inspiration!
I loved this! Thank you for sharing these reasons not to blog- it only confirms my desire to blog! I’m a beginner blogger, but I’m excited to meet new people, and create opportunities I would not have if I weren’t blogging. It would be amazing if we can actually make some money blogging too, but I’d rather know I can make a difference in someone’s life!
