Do you have a superhero fan in your home? I do, and it’s safe to say he’s pretty much a fan of anything that has to do with superheroes. So imagine his excitement when he found out that I was throwing a superheroes party. What made it even more exciting was the fact that the theme was Captain America, one of his favorite characters!
So how does a super busy mom with almost zero extra time left in her day, pull it off? By keeping it simple and sticking to the basics. I often hear moms stress over throwing a party for their kids because it’s a lot of work or expensive. Instead of focusing on perfection and pricey decor, make the party about what’s most important, creating memories with loved ones.
So I picked up some decorations and snacks at our local Walmart. I should have measured my table prior to purchasing the table cover, because it didn’t quite fit. Again, it’s about the memories and not perfection so I simply worked with what I had. The older kids helped out, while the baby attempted to chase balloons. My suggestion when decorating for a Captain America themed party is to stick to red, white and blue colors. This will make it much easier to find inexpensive decor since you don’t have to buy theme specific decorations.
The next best thing about a party is the food. When your tight on time, but still want to wow your guests, take the semi-homemade approach. Here’s one easy snack that even the kids can put together. Simply pop your favorite popcorn, I used salted for the white color, and mix in some of your favorite treats. I added M&M’s® and raisins to ours. The kids called it Superhero Munch. You can also add peanuts, chocolate chips, gummies, pretzels and anything else you enjoy. It doesn’t have to be complicated to be yummy!
We also made M&M’s ice cream sandwiches. All you need is two of your favorite cookies, ice cream (we used vanilla) and M&M’s. Milk chocolate or mini M&M’s work best by the way. Just place a scoop of ice cream on one cookie, top it off with a second cookie, pour M&M’s over the sides and place in freezer until it hardens. It’s sooo yummy and was one of the kids’ favorite treats.
Last, but not least, we made “Superhero Fuel”. Simply pour some lemon-lime soda, add grenadine (I didn’t measure so just add according to your taste preference) and a scoop of ice cream. Instant yum!
Can you tell he’s a fan of Captain America?
Trying to give me his serious superhero face…but he simply can’t do it when mommy is behind the camera trying to make him laugh.
A few days later we picked up the Captain America: The Winter Soldier movie and enjoyed some more yummy treats. Right now you can print a $5.00 off coupon when you purchase two bags of M&M’s and the Captain America movie. Also check out HeroesEatMMs.com to find out which Marvel superhero you are. Like I mentioned before, I picked up our supplies and snacks at Walmart. Their selection of M&M’s was awesome. Of course we wound up buying more than I care to admit. 🙂
