Who’s ready for summer to arrive?! I think most of us can agree that summer is a season we look forward to. I’ve been anxiously waiting and it truly can’t get here fast enough. For our family, it means enjoying the outdoors as much as possible. That typically includes impromptu road trips, days at the pool and trying out new things as family.

Before summer kicks off, we make an informal plan of things we want to do and places we want to see. This year is no different except that we decided to make a summer bucket list so we can check things off throughout the season. I also like to keep a separate savings specifically for the things we plan to do in the summer. It allows our family to enjoy new experiences without having to worry about busting our monthly budget.
So what are some easy ways we save for our summer experiences? Here’s a list of my top 3 favorite:
1. We rarely go out to eat.
Going out to eat can add up very quickly. The temptation quickly rises during the summer season, so instead we opt for meals in that include firing up our grill. I also like to frequent the farmers market during the warmer months. Even when we do splurge, we make sure it’s a special treat that we will truly enjoy.
2. We find inexpensive and free things to do.
We like to stay outdoors and keep busy during the warmer months. However, we find inexpensive and free things to do, so that we can use our savings for other summer experiences.
3. We try to keep our monthly bills low.
I keep the temperature on the thermostat higher, I use our grill and crockpot to cook, and I also don’t have an expensive mobile plan. All of these help our monthly bills stay on the lower end which equals more savings for our family. If you would like to put a summer bucket list together for your family, I created a neat free printable you can download. Simply print and place in an inexpensive picture frame. You can use a dry erase marker to write on the glass and it will wipe off clean, so you can use it again next year.
