Have you been bitten by the spring cleaning bug yet? As a busy mom I have a love/hate relationship with spring cleaning. I love the end result, but trying to fit everything into my already busy schedule can be a challenge. So today I wanted to share some of my favorite tips to help you tackle your spring cleaning to-do list without losing your sanity.
Spring Cleaning Tips For Busy Moms
Start early
Don’t wait until you’re expecting guests or when the school year is almost over. Start now and create a plan to get your spring cleaning tasks complete. You can join a spring cleaning challenge or pencil different tasks in your calendar. Figure out what works best for your family’s schedule and go from there.
Enlist help
In our home everyone helps out with household chores. When including your children, ensure that you assign tasks that are not overly complicated. If you’re a bit of a control freak, you’ll have to let go and be flexible. Accept that kids work at a different pace and may not always meet your cleaning standards.
Declutter first
I personally like to start by decluttering the surface areas before moving on to closets and drawers. I like seeing the progress I’ve made because it helps keep me motivated. Set a timer and give yourself at least 10-15 minutes of uninterrupted time. If you can devote more time, go for it. The goal is to purge the things that you don’t love and are not useful.
This week, I’m working on purging my paper clutter. I’m using my Fellowes 79Ci paper shredder to help make the process easier. My husband is also self-employed, so the paperwork piles grow rather quickly around here. I like to keep paperwork to a minimum which enables me to be more productive in my work space.
Here are some of my favorite features on the 79Ci:
- Patented 100% Jam Proof System that eliminates paper jams and powers through tough jobs.
- Heavy-duty Cross-Cut blades that can handle up to 16 sheets of paper per pass in addition to staples, paper clips, credit cards, junk mail and CDs.
- An extended 20 minute run time for increased productivity.
- Patented SafeSense® Technology which automatically stops shredding when hands touch the paper opening.
- Energy Savings System that maximizes shredder energy efficiency 100% of the time – both in use and out of use.
- SilentShred™ Technology that offers ultra-quiet shredder performance.
The 79Ci is available on Amazon and at Office Superstores with a suggested retail price of $239.99.
Focus on one space at a time
Don’t try to tackle several rooms in one day. I personally like to break it down and work on one space at a time. I also like to declutter first and then focus on deep cleaning. This enables me to get done a lot quicker because I’m not cleaning around unnecessary clutter.
Enjoy yourself
Spring cleaning is a great way to clear out your clutter and start fresh in the new season. Don’t overwhelm yourself trying to do it all at once. Instead, spread it our over several weeks and remind yourself that it will be worth the extra effort. Play music, light up a candle or add some inexpensive decor. Just make it fun and enjoy the process.
