31 Days To A Clutter Free Life Day 11: Kitchen Cupboards & Drawers
Welcome to Day 11 of the 31 Days To A Clutter Free Life Challenge! If you want to find out what the challenge is all about or would like to read the previous posts, simply go here.
Today’s challenge is going to kick my butt a bit. We are focusing on the kitchen cupboards and drawers. I haven’t purged or organized mine in a bit so I’m sure I’ll have my work cut out for me. My biggest challenge is food. I keep it even when we don’t use it. Now I much rather donate it, but if I can’t figure out who to give it to, it just sits.
The partial culprit of this is my mom. She likes to send me extra cans or packages of food that she thinks we’ll like and before you know it I have a mini stockpile. I’m grateful, trust me, but it can make keeping the cupboards clutter free a bit tricky. I only have a couple of drawers to deal with in this challenge, but they will also need a major overhaul.
My plan is the following:
- Box up any food that is not open, but has been sitting for a while, to donate.
- Toss out food that is expired.
- Toss out food that is opened, but no one eats.
- Group food with similar food items.
- Wipe down cupboards and drawers while they are empty.
Here are my before photos, now keep in mind that I need to go grocery shopping so this is as “empty” as it gets.
I probably won’t get a chance to work on this until later this evening, but I’ll make sure to update the post with my progress. Wish me luck!
Here are the after photos of my kitchen cupboards. Notice I said cupboards and not drawers. After getting all excited about tackling my cupboards I forgot that I also needed to tackle the drawers and by then I was already busy with something else so I skipped it. However, I will make sure it gets done tomorrow because I’m already a day behind.
