31 Days To A Clutter Free Life Day 17: Kids Bedrooms
Welcome to Day 17 of the 31 Days To A Clutter Free Life Challenge! If you want to find out what the challenge is all about or would like to read the previous posts, simply go here.
Today’s challenge is focused on the kids bedrooms. This is probably one of the most challenging rooms for parents. If you have kids that feel the need to collect 1000’s of Lego pieces or like to redecorate their room with yesterday’s laundry, you know exactly what I’m talking about. Luckily, my kids are old enough to pick up their rooms by themselves with very little help from me. However, that also means that certain tasks don’t get tackled as well as they should. We all know that our version of clean is very different than our kids version.
For today’s challenge I’ll be doing the following:
- Throw out items that are not in good shape or broken.
- Designate a space for items that have no current storage.
- Help the kids decide what type of organization works for them.
- Place outgrown toys and items that are in good condition in donation box.
- Wipe down all surfaces and wash linens.
I plan on involving the kids throughout the entire process so that a) they can take ownership of their space b) they know the system first hand which should help them keep up with it c) they can help mommy because I’m simple super busy and don’t have all day. 🙂
I’ll update this post with pictures of our progress. I couldn’t grab any before pictures this morning because the kids were still sleeping and I didn’t think it was fair to wake them up while I hovered over them with a camera.
**Update**
Here’s a before picture of my son’s bedroom, or what I like to call an “in progress” picture since I was already pulling things out of the closet and bins.
Here’s the after. It’s so much nicer now and I was able to get rid of way more than I thought. We donated several things and tossed out quite a few as well. This room is done and ready for the holiday season. Woot!
