Welcome to Day 1 of the Get Your Home Ready For The Holidays Challenge! Today’s challenge is simple, but probably some of the most important steps you will take. I find that when I get in the mood to tackle home projects or go on a purging spree, I have to create a plan and prepare. Otherwise, I wind up working on everything and accomplishing nothing.
Create a list of tasks
First you’ll want to focus on creating a list of the tasks that you want (or need) to work on. Do you have a closet space that’s out of control? Or perhaps you can’t remember the last time you deep cleaned the kitchen? Whatever it may be, make a note of it because this is what you’ll be focusing on. Yes, I’ll be sharing my own tasks during this challenge, but never feel like you have to focus on the same things I do. This challenge is to encourage you to make progress on the tasks that you’ve been putting off. I certainly don’t want you to feel the need to keep up with my to-do list and neglect what’s important to you.
Some of the tasks that made my list are the following:
- Deep clean the kitchen
- Wash windows
- Shampoo carpets
- Touch-up painting
- Purging hallway closet
Gather cleaning supplies
You’ll also need to assess your cleaning supplies. Ensure you have enough cleaning rags, spray bottles, vinegar, trash bags, disinfectant wipes or any other cleaning product you like to use. Nothing kills my momentum more than finding out I’m out of a cleaning product I need. So make sure you’re stocked up on the things you’ll need, so you don’t have to skip any days.
Keep yourself accountable
Find an accountability partner. Yup, make yourself accountable by sharing with a family member or friend what you plan on doing. I find that it helps me keep going on the days that I’m not quite in the mood. For me, this blog keeps me accountable so if I skip a day, you all will know about it. 🙂
Are you joining the challenge? I’d love hear from you! Don’t forget I’ll be using the hashtag #HolidayReadyChallenge on Instagram and Twitter if you want to follow along or post your own progress. I hope you’ll join me or follow along!
