Gifts for boys-The Red Ryder BB Gun

Every year I try to start my Christmas shopping early so that I’m not scrambling at the last minute for gifts. I always give the kids the option of asking for one thing they truly want, and the remainder I pick out. This way we stay within our set budget, but still give the kids a choice. I always find that gift for boys are the hardest to purchase. However, my son has zero problem helping me in this area.
Earlier this year he mentioned that he really wanted a BB gun. I won’t lie, at first I didn’t want to hear it. The paranoid mommy side of me came out and I didn’t even give the kid a chance. He loves all things outdoors and sports, it’s simply in his nature. So he plead his case again and I reluctantly agreed. My husband assured me that he would teach him the safe and proper way to handle the BB gun.
I took him with me to Walmart to purchase the Daisy Red Ryder BB Gun. He was thrilled and walked out with a huge grin on his face.
Before he got to use the BB gun, his dad went over all safety details found on the reading material that came with the BB gun. Daisy educates roughly one million of America’s youth a year through their Ten Lesson Shooting Curriculum about BB gun use and safety (found here). Daisy’s educational curriculum has been around since 1948, so they definitely know their stuff.
When he finally had the opportunity to take it outdoors, I created a printable target that he could tape to a box just to make it a bit more fun. Feel free to print your own by clicking here!
My husband gave him some pointers on how to hold the BB gun properly and aim for the target.
Once he felt comfortable, he aimed and fired with my husband’s supervision.
See that grin on his face? He was so proud of himself for hitting the target with his second shot that he immediately wanted to try again. I think it’s safe to say that it’s one of his favorite gifts to date.
