How to Avoid Getting Sick While Traveling {and what to do if you}

I’m proud to partner with Zicam® as part of a sponsored series with Socialstars. All ideas and opinions are my own.

Traveling is one of our family’s favorite ways to connect and share special moments. Whether it’s a weekend trip to the mountains or a week of fun in the sun, each destination offers an opportunity for our family to bond. I remember 3 years ago while vacationing in Florida, I noticed I wasn’t feeling the best. By the end of the trip, I had a terrible cold and felt physically drained. I went from enjoying our time together in the sunshine state, to longing to be back home in my own bed. Family trips don’t happen every day, so being sick was the last thing I wanted to deal with. It put a damper on my experience as well as my loved ones.

Whether it’s traveling or any other activity you enjoy, don’t allow a cold to stop you from creating memories with your family. Today I’m sharing tips to help you avoid getting sick while traveling, along with a few key items you should pack in case a cold strikes.

How to Avoid Getting Sick While Traveling
{and what to do if you}

Boost your immune system

Eating fruits and vegetables that are packed with vitamins and nutrients is a great place to start. Another great option is adding fermented foods to your diet such as yogurt, pickles, and kombucha. I also ensure that I get plenty of rest. Remember you may not be getting enough nutrients through diet alone, so it’s important that you supplement if necessary. Make sure you talk to a healthcare professional to determine which vitamins or supplements you should be taking.

Avoid germs

Coming in contact with germs is one of the quickest ways to get sick while traveling. When I’m traveling I make it a priority to avoid germs and keep my family healthy. Ensure that you and your family are washing your hands with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds. This step alone can help your family avoid the spread of germs. I also like to pack portable hand sanitizers and sanitizing wipes which come in handy when we’re traveling.

Make healthy food choices

I’m a foodie at heart, but I still like to start my day with a basic healthy breakfast even when I’m traveling. Life is about balance and although I like to indulge in a few treats when we’re traveling, I still make an effort to enjoy it in moderation. I don’t believe in deprivation, especially while on vacation, but making smarter choices to keep my body healthy is definitely worth the effort.

Pack Zicam® Cold Remedy RapidMelts®

If you do get sick, don’t despair! If taken at the first sign of a cold, Zicam® Cold Remedy RapidMelts® can shorten the length of a cold. Zicam® RapidMelts® is a homeopathic cold remedy that is non-drowsy and non-habit forming, it also comes in a mix of three great-tasting flavors: Citrus, Cherry, and Lemon-Lime with Echinacea.

I like that they quickly dissolve in your mouth without water and are great for taking on-the-go. In fact, we’ll be heading on our next family adventure soon and I made sure to pack a box of Zicam® RapidMelts® along with other essentials.

I know I can’t always prevent things from happening, but I also won’t be caught off guard again. Plus these smiles are worth the extra effort.

How do you avoid getting sick while traveling with loved ones? I’d love to hear your tips!
