Over the years I’ve saved hundreds of dollars on my children’s clothing while keeping them comfortable and stylish.
As a mom, I love going shopping for my kids and putting together cute outfits. Even when I try to shop for myself, I almost always wind up buying something for one my kids instead. Over the years I’ve learned a thing or two about saving money on children’s clothing. I know that my kids will probably outgrow their clothes quickly, so I try to limit our family’s clothing budget. This means I have to get creative in order to keep costs low. So today I’m sharing some of my favorite tips that have helped me save hundreds of dollars on children’s clothing over the years.
How To Save On Children’s Clothing
Buy used
I have purchased clothing for my kids from yard sales, thrift stores and consignment stores. When I find a clothing item in one of my children’s sizes, I inspect it for holes, stains and signs of excessive wear. If it passes the test, I’ll purchase it and wash it thoroughly at home. I’ve scored brand new clothes with tags for a fraction of the cost. It does take some time and patience, but I’ve saved a lot of money over the years which makes it worthwhile.
Give and receive
A few times a year I like to go through our closets and purge the clothes my kids have outgrown. I first try to find a family that I can donate the clothes to before I decide to consign them. In return, I have also been blessed by others that have passed down clothes to my kids. Try to find friends or family that you can swap clothing with. You’ll save money, keep your family’s closet clutter-free, and help another family.
Shop sales
The perfect time to purchase clothing is during the off-season. When winter clothes get greatly reduced in anticipation of spring, take advantage and stock up for the following winter. I also find great deals on jeans and t-shirts during back-to-school sales. Clearance racks are also a great way to find deeply discounted clothing. If you prefer to shop online, make sure you use coupon codes and sign up for newsletters for exclusive deals.
Buy affordable new clothing
You don’t have to spend a fortune on new clothing for your kids. I always have fun buying my baby girl some trendy clothes here and there. One brand that is very affordable and stylish that helps me stay within budget is Garanimals. What I love is that I can mix and match different pieces to expand my toddler’s wardrobe without having to purchase more clothes. This is perfect since she’s constantly growing out of her clothes. I recently purchased some comfortable and very affordable shorts for my little one.
Garanimals is made for newborns as well as little ones up to 5T. They also offer 365Kids which offer the latest styles for bigger kids, up to size 8. Garanimals is sold exclusively at Walmart stores and at Walmart.com.
