30 Day Purge Challenge {Day 10}

30 Day Purge Challenge {Day 10}. For 30 days I will purge five items each day in order to de-clutter and get rid of excess from our home. This is my progress for Day 10.
In case you missed the initial post; I’m currently doing a 30 day purge challenge where I choose five items each day that I have to donate, sell or trash.

Today, marks the 1/3 way point of the challenge. And yes, I’m totally pumped for reaching this milestone. 🙂 If you’ve been following along and participating on the challenge, kudos to you. I’ve been talking about how the challenge is helping me part ways with things that I kept due to their value etc. I thought I had the de-cluttering thing figured out, but this challenge helped me realize that there was so much more that we don’t need. It’s easy to hang on to stuff when we remember how much we paid for it or if it brings back a special memory. However, if it’s not something that is bringing value to your family and is not used regularly, it’s time to consider parting ways.

How can you get past the sentimental roadblock?

Just do it! I can go on about various strategies and tips to help you let go, but until you finally do it, you’ll simply continue to struggle in this area. If you truly think that you can’t handle parting ways with valuable or sentimental stuff, start by purging items that you don’t care for because they’re broken, don’t fit, or will never be used. A reader also reminded me about the great rule of multiples. If you have two or more of something, get rid of one of them. I guarantee that once you start purging and making it a regular habit, the process will get easier each time.

Now on to today’s five items: 1 area rug and 6 curtain panels.

Nope that’s not a typo. I went over my limit today, but I have a good reason for it. I gave away the curtains to someone I know and I didn’t want to only give them a partial set. I’m cool with breaking the rules, and there’s plenty more where those came from. The area rug is being donated. It was my daughter’s area rug at our old house. Not sure what I was thinking by bringing it along when we moved.

How are you making out? Ready to quit? You’re a third of the way there, so don’t give up!
