Family Trip To Savannah Georgia

Our family visited Savannah, Georgia last month. Although, we were there briefly, it was not our first time visiting this beautiful city. We love Savannah, it’s a city that’s full of history and beautiful landmarks that require more than a weekend trip to take it all in. Even with our short stay, we tried to make the most of our time there and hit up some of our favorite spots.

Since we were only there for a couple of days, we decided to make our usual stop and go to River Street. If you’re ever in Savannah, you have to check out River Street. This waterfront street offers a variety of restaurants, handmade shops, boutiques and candy stores. It’s one my children’s favorite places to visit in Savannah and I happily oblige.

From good food to beautiful historic buildings, there’s truly something for everyone. Just find a nearby parking space and walk along the beautiful cobblestone street. My favorite part of River Street is people watching while taking in the sights and sounds.

River Street is also home to the River Street Sweets Candy Store where you’ll find the most amazing pralines. My kids love walking around the store and watching the staff create various delicious treats.

The architecture of the century old buildings is truly stunning. It’s a reminder of the rich history this wonderful city is made of.

And if you want to grab a bite to eat, there’s a variety of restaurants that range from high-end to casual.

You’ll also want to walk behind the buildings on River Street, they were equally as charming in my opinion.

You can also get a glimpse of City Hall. Check out the gold dome! Seriously, those are tissue-paper thin sheets of 23-karat gold leaf you see.

My favorite part of River Street is the stunning view of the water. I think my little guy was also taking it all in. You can also take a free ferry ride across the Savannah River to Hutchinson Island and The International Trade and Convention Center.

Watching the beautiful sunset over the Savannah River was a great way to end our day.

And in case you’re wondering about a great place to stay that’s family-friendly and offers an amazing complimentary hot breakfast, check out Homewood Suites by Hilton in Savannah. The staff was friendly, accommodations were great and the hotel was located a few miles from Savanna’s historic district.

You’ll also have access to a heated pool when you need to unwind from a long day of sightseeing.
