Welcome to Day 15 of the Get Your Home Ready For The Holidays Challenge! I still can’t believe tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day! Not sure if it was the unusually warm weather we had recently, but it doesn’t feel like the end of November. Either way, I’m looking forward to good food and spending time with our families. We stop by both of our parents’ homes, so my cooking is very minimal and I can truly enjoy myself.
So now that we finally made it to the last day of the challenge, I made a quick assessment of all that I was able to accomplish. Here’s just a few tasks that got crossed off of my list during the challenge:
- Purged and organized
- Cleared out the pantry and kitchen cabinets
- Deep cleaned the bathroom
- Shampooed carpets
Was it worth it? Absolutely! Starting super early gave me a huge advantage. Now I can fully enjoy the holiday season without having to worry about deep cleaning or organizing.
If you still need to catch up, no worries. Today I’m sharing some quick cleaning tips to help you get your home ready for guests.
Quick Cleaning Tips {when time is tight!}
- Give everyone in your home a basket, assign each person a room and go on a pick up spree.
- Clean the bathrooms by wiping all surfaces, glass and scrubbing toilets.
- Wipe down kitchen counters and appliances. Clear kitchen/dining table and wipe down.
- Wipe glass surfaces and dust furniture in the main living areas.
- Sweep, vacuum and mop floors.
I also find that adding welcoming touches to the home goes a long way. Simple things like a seasonal scented candle, a new welcome mat and/or fresh flowers will add a special touch to your home’s ambiance. If you plan to cook or bake for your guests, start early so your home is filled with yummy food scents when they arrive.
At the end of the day, don’t stress about making your home look perfect. What’s important is that you prepare your heart to connect with your guests. In fact, I enjoy myself more when I visit someone that isn’t so uptight about how their home looks or how their food is presented.
