I love it when my husband and I get a chance to go out on a date. But due to our busy schedules, plus lack of childcare, our dates typically happen in the comfort of our own home. Our favorite thing to do on our date nights is watch a good movie and munch on some yummy snacks. It’s one of our favorite ways to spend time with each other and unwind. So today I’m sharing a few date night tips along with a fun snack recipe that you can try on your next movie night.
Date Night Tips-
Schedule it
Put it on the calendar. I find that if we don’t schedule our date nights, they don’t happen. I believe that it’s vital for our marriage, so I’m a stickler about keeping our dates. Make date night a priority and treat it like an important appointment. In other words, don’t cancel it unless absolutely necessary.
Pick a movie
Next, pick a movie that you both will enjoy. No children’s movie allowed! Save those for family movie night. If you follow me on social media, I recently mentioned how much we enjoyed the movie War Room. We had a date night this past week and made it our movie pick. As a Christian, I love that faith takes front and center throughout the movie.
The main characters, Tony and Elizabeth, are facing strain in the marriage along with other issues. Elizabeth creates a prayer “war room” where she battles in prayer for her marriage and home. The War Room movie will make you laugh, cry and think. We watched it at the movie theater when it first released and I couldn’t wait for the DVD release. If you haven’t seen it yet, I highly recommend it!
Choose your snacks
Stock up on some of your favorite snacks and drinks. I also love putting something extra together that we can enjoy. For our last date night, I made a delicious chocolate peanut butter bark that is topped with Orville Redenbacher Popcorn and M&M’S® Chocolate Candies. I dubbed it Movie Night Chocolate Bark since it has everything I enjoy snacking on during our movie nights. I’d love for you to try it and let me know how you like it!
Movie Night Chocolate Bark
Ingredients:
2 cups-milk chocolate or dark chocolate chips
1 cup-peanut butter chips
1 cup-Orville Redenbacher Popcorn (popped)
1 cup-M&M’S® Chocolate Candies
1/4 cup-creamy peanut butter (optional)
Directions
Melt 2 cups of milk or dark chocolate chips in the microwave (no more than 20 second increments). I used milk chocolate chips for this recipe, but I have also used dark chocolate in the past. It’s truly a taste preference. Spread melted chocolate on parchment paper and melt peanut butter chips. Next, pour melted peanut butter chips over milk chocolate and swirl with a knife.
Sprinkle popped popcorn and M&M’S® chocolate candies over melted chocolate. I also like to melt a little bit of creamy peanut butter to drizzle over top. Let the chocolate set at room temperature for a few hours, or if you’re impatient like me, place it in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
Cut up the chocolate bark with a knife and serve immediately. You can also save it for later, but ensure that it’s placed inside an airtight container.
I served our movie night bark along with Orville Redenbacher Popcorn, M&M’S® Chocolate Candies and Coke Zero. Good times my friends, good times. 🙂
You can find all of the snacks, ingredients along with the War Room movie at your local Walmart.
