Free Summer Activities For Kids

Free Summer Activities For Kids

I don’t now about you, but I’m super anxious for summer to arrive. Warm weather, yummy grilled food and lounging by the pool are all things I look forward to. So with summer quickly approaching I wanted to share with you some free activities that your kids can enjoy during the summer months.

Free Summer Activities For Kids

Bowling

Kids bowl free is an excellent program that provides 2 free bowling games daily throughout the summer. I’m thrilled about this program since I now live only 5 minutes from a bowling center that participates. They also offer a discounted option for other family members. Sign ups are already open so go register at KidsBowlFree.com today!

Apple Camp

My son participated in this camp last year and absolutely loved it. You don’t have to own any Apple products in order to participate. The camp is held at the Apple Store and runs over a three day period. My son had the opportunity to create a short film that he shared, along with other campers, on the last day of camp. My son received a free t-shirt, USB wrist band and an iron-on patch. Register here to be notified when registration opens.

Skating

This program is very similar to the Kids Bowl Free program. Kids get a free skating pass for specific days and hours. Now this program does not have as many participating locations as the bowling program. However, you could check directly with your local skating rink since many offer free or reduced skating days during the summer months. To find a program near you go to KidsSkateFree.com.

Local Library

Your local library is an excellent place for kids during the summer months. Our local library offers a reading program that allows children to attend free events as well as earn free books. Some libraries also offer free movie nights for the family. Don’t forget what a great resource your library is; you can borrow books, CDs and even movies!

Local Parks

Not only is your local park a great place for the kids to spend time playing, many offer free events throughout the summer. From free summer concerts to arts festivals, your local park can offer much more than just a playground for your kids. Our local parks hosts a summer concert series for several weeks, it’s free entertainment for the entire family.

Local museums and zoos

Many museums and zoos host a free day event during the summer months. Some are even free year round! We’re lucky to live near Hershey’s Chocolate World and some other great sites that are free. Check online or contact your local visitor center to find out what free attractions are near you. Also find out if there are any local food factories that offer free tours. Kids love these and they usually get a free sample at the end of the tour.

Farmers’ Market

Farmers’ markets are a great place to take your children. Yes, you’ll probably wind up buying some yummy treat, but your kids will love the experience. My family is lucky to live near some great farmers’ markets that offer delicious Amish food and fresh produce. Many vendors even leave out free food samples! So if you know you need to purchase some produce, save it for the farmers’ market and make it a family trip.

Summer Movie Express

This one is not 100% free, but for only $1 (a portion gets donated to charity) your child can watch a great kid-friendly movie on the big screen. The program is hosted by Regal Entertainment Group and runs for 9 weeks with various participating locations throughout the US. Check out when the program begins at a theater near you on their website.

Joining you from SITSGirls! What i love most about summer is how much you can do without spending a dime. I love this list you have here and it’s perfect for anyone who wants to stay active and healthy. I’m a huge fan of visiting farmer’s markets with your family. It’s the best way to get your kids involved in grocery shopping, learn more about where their food comes from, and saves you some money too while contributing to your local economy- an all-around winner! I’m sharing this with all of my networks (including Kinsa- a startup focused on family and community health) . Hope you’re having a great weekend!

  3. Great ideas! Backyard camping is another fun one.
